Like you, I used to write...Interesting blog entry. Like you, I used to write discovery drafts. After Odyssey and several pitched battles with myself, I've tried to plan out stories in advance. The result is that I've managed to write more polished first drafts. However, I invariably discover things about the story and characters in the process, so it appears I still write discovery drafts--just a bit more advanced discovery drafts.
